SGE Black Hole Mapper Edit Instructions
Part 1: Grabbing the Map - you're going to take 9 screen-shots -
3 rows of 3 images each. These instructions will automatically give
you proper sizing, and will overlap the images the exact right amount.
It is a pain; if you want help, send a PM to "squeemish" through the
SGE forums.
- Go into the galaxy, bring up the galaxy map. Zoom Out all the way, then
zoom back in 3 times.
Move the scroll bars to the upper left corner. Click the down arrow twice.
You are now positioned in the correct upper-left starting location.
- Take your screen shot and save as a .jpg or .png file.
(Must be 1024x768. Best to take screen shots from full screen mode. Save
with little or no compression.)
- Click to the right of the map's horizontal scroll bar or below the vertical
scroll bar (not the arrow, but in the space between the slider and the arrow)
to move within the map.
- This is a diagram of the 9 images to be taken. Note there are margins to
the right and bottom that are not captured.
Notes:
- If you can, use a clean character with no flags on the map and no warping marks on the map.
Keep SOL as the selected system so there is no highlighted green route.
- Sometimes after you alt-tab to paste and save an image, features of the galaxy
map will be missing, or even the sliders. You will need to
close the map and re-open it, and reposition to the upper-left starting
location.
- Make sure the map isn't showing a system name in the upper-left corner. If it
is try moving the mouse to an empty spot on the map before moving the mouse out
of the way.
Part 2: Typing In the Black Hole Information - Go to the
edit page and enter the fields.
- In "Galaxy Information" enter the galaxy name.
The other fields are usually left blank.
- The "Black Holes" section is fairly self explanitory.
System names are optional.
- In the "Image Segments" section:
For new maps only: select the file to upload for each map segment.
Otherwise leave these 9 fields blank.
If you want you can also trim off some extra black space from the
edge of the map.
- Note: This is a community effort so anyone can edit anything.
All prior versions are saved and can be restored if needed.
IP addresses are tied to each update.
Part 3: Final Posting to the Wiki - You can give this a shot or PM
"squeemish" in the forums.
- Open up the final map in your browser.
- Take a screen shot.
- Paste the pic it into your favorite graphical editor (not MS Paint!)
You may need to take a 2nd screen shot and put them together if your
screen isn't big enough to get it all in one shot.
- Trim off any excess junk from your screen capture (borders, white space, etc.)
- Save locally as a PNG or JPEG with minimal compression.
- Log into the SGE Wiki.
Create an account if you don't already have one.
- Click on "Upload File" and upload your PNG/JPEG map. Be sure to remember what you called it.
- Browse to the Black Hole Wiki article
and edit. Follow the format for the other maps.
- If its a new map, go to the forums and post in the Launchpad's black hole
thread.
